Ok so what happens when you cross a Chihuahua with a Jack Russell Terrier?

You get a feisty little bundle of fun called a JackChi, aka Jackahuahua, aka my little Téa. Well technically she's only 1/4 Jack Russell so I like to call her a Jackahuahuahuahuahuahua!

Originally I wanted a full breed Chihuahua but when I saw her my heart melted. Thinking about it now though, I can definitely see the benefits of a crossbred puppy.

While mixed breed dogs aren't as predictable in terms of size, coat or temperament. Who wants predictable?

Although not free from inheriting genetic problems, it is believed mixed dogs are healthier than purebred dogs.

Hybrid dogs are a mix of two or more different purebreed dogs bred to remove or include specific genetic characteristics, reducing health problems or improving temperaments. Having all the best bits!

Another benefit is that they are more affordable than purebred Chihuahuas. I must say this wasn't my motivation for adopting Téa though.

With the new label 'Designer Dogs' making crosses very popular it is still very important you adopt a puppy from a responsible breeder or better still a rescue centre.

Designer Dog Names

Working out all of the different names can be fun. My favourite is my mother's dog Lola. She calls her a Chiporkie - 1/2 Yorkie, 1/4 Chihuahua and 1/4 Pug.
